Roy Hodgson admits wantaway Chelsea target Wilfried Zaha has had his head turned going into the new season.

Crystal Palace forward Zaha, 27, is regarded as one of the most creative and attacking wingers in the Premier League right now and has been linked with a big move away from the club for the last 12 months.

The winger has been back in the headlines over the past few weeks, and although we do not need the man any longer, we have still be linked with a transfer move and boss Hodgson, preparing for today’s Premier League opener against Southampton, said on TalkSport: “There are a lot of things being said and a lot of people putting ideas into his head.

“So it’s not the easiest thing for him to come to terms with.

“The external influences are quite great and he has to battle a few demons there.

“But I must say I’m basing my opinion on what he is doing at the moment.

“His training and the matches he has played for us, there has been no problem at all.

“You’d have to speak to Wilf to find out the exact state of his psyche — but I’m not concerned.”

It is easy to see why Zaha has had his head turned by big clubs, but Palace sticking a massive price tag on his head means that he is not able to make that step up to a bigger club.

A move here would have been a very good one for him to make, but as we said, we no longer need the man.
