World class star speaks about possible Chelsea transfer deal in January
Edouard Mendy has not ruled out a move away from Chelsea if Kepa continues to be the main man at Stamford Brige
The Senegal international has impressed in the club since his arrival from Rennes in 2020 and has established himself as one of the best stoppers in world football.
However – his place in the first-team as come under threat this season – as he was sidelined with a knee injury when Graham Potter arrived at Stamford Bridge in September with Kepa Arrizabalaga coming back into the fold as a result, impressing with a string of much improved performances.
He is still considered to be the number one at the club – but with Kepa working his way back into the squad and all the speculation that Potter wants to bring in Robert Sanchez from Brighton – it has been claimed that he is now looking into leaving the club
Mendy is currently with the Senegal squad in Qatar ahead of their opener against Netherlands on Monday and while his focus is solely on the World Cup, suggests he will have to make decision on his club future.
‘I’m in Qatar first and foremost to represent my country and to put everything on the line so that we play a successful tournament,’ Mendy told wettbasis.
‘What will happen afterwards with the Blues (Chelsea), we will see. The season is still very long.
“Recently I got a few games again. One thing is for sure: I will continue to give my all with the hope of getting more playing time again.’
