Chelsea transfer target Declan Rice will be considering a move to Stamford Bridge this summer, claim Danny Mills.
Rice has been in the headlines for all the right reasons over the past 12 months and has firmly established himself as one of the most exciting young midfielders in the Premier League.
And amid the speculation that we are about to submit a £73 million offer, Mills believes he’ll be looking at his position at the London Stadium and considering his options now that we are interested, especially after seeing the club invest heavily over the transfer window.
Speaking to Football Insider, the former defender explained Rice’s situation at West Ham and urged him to make the move to west London.
“You’ll always be flattered,” he said.
“It’s always interesting especially when you look at the interesting players that Chelsea have pulled together over the window.
“Suddenly you’re thinking ‘I am currently going to be in a team that is a bottom half team that is fighting relegation perhaps as opposed to a team that is going to be in the Champions League and challenging.’”
West Brom boss Slaven Bilic has hailed ‘top man’ Frank Lampard for sending Chelsea youngster Conor Gallagher on loan to the Baggies.
The 20-year-old midfielder signed a new five-year deal at Stamford Bridge before moving to the Midlands for the rest of the season for vital Premier League experience, and he has announced his delight at the transfer deal.
“There was a lot of interest from the Premier League, which is where I wanted to play this season, but this is where I want to be,” Gallagher told the Baggies’ official website.
“West Brom stood out to me because of the way they played last season. I played against them two or three times and I liked how they approached the game.”
And afer getting the exciting young striker, Bilic has hailed Lampard for the deal: “We’re delighted,” said Bilic on Sky Sports. “I know the player from the Championship last season. He made a huge impact, first at Charlton and then Swansea.
“We were there – it’s not like somebody has told us ‘it’s a difficult league and there’s a player there’ – we were there.
“There was a chance in January we might’ve taken him before he went to Swansea, but it was very difficult and we couldn’t do it.
“When we saw the opportunity, we did it straightaway. I have to thank Frank Lampard – I phoned him, he’s a top man. We’ve known each other since West Ham.
“He helped us with that, but the boy wanted to come. He’s ready to make the next step in his career and he’ll give us something we don’t have, that dynamic in the midfield.
“I’m expecting a lot from him. It’s a new level for him; we’re gonna help him, he’s going to help us. Hopefully it’ll be an exciting and pleasant journey.”
Timo Werner has insisted he made the ‘hard decision’ to join Chelsea in order to win top titles this summer window.
Werner is easily one of the hottest young strikers in the game right now and his performances over the last 12 months led to speculation that the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City were ready to swoop in and try to get a transfer deal done..
However, we managed to sign the young man up for a bargain £43 million transfer deal, and Werner has revealed Frank Lampard sold him to the club on his Stamford Bridge vision.
“I’ve come here to win titles, Chelsea is a big club and a club that always wants to win,” said Werner on the club website.
“For me I always want to win every game. So it’s clear we want to win titles. Now we have a very strong team and a young team that can develop, and can go through a period of a long time where we can stay together, because we are young and we want to win.
“And that’s a good way for what I want to reach here. Because I am here to win titles and win a lot of games, as many games as possible.
“I wanted to come to the Premier League because it’s the world’s best league, and for me it’s the best feeling to play in front of Premier League fans. When we played at Tottenham with Leipzig it was crazy, really crazy to play there in front of the people.
“So I wanted to have the feeling to play in the Premier League, to play for such a big club like Chelsea. And that’s why I came here.
“When I decided to leave Leipzig I talked to different clubs, of course, next to Chelsea, there were some other clubs that I talked to. But for me I don’t want to talk about so much about other clubs, because in the end I decided for Chelsea.
“Of course there were some other clubs also, like Liverpool – who have a great team, and also maybe I can fit good to some other teams. But at the end I decided to join Chelsea because for me it was the best decision I can take. Not only because of the style of football but also because of what they have shown to me.
“I think it was a hard decision in the end but I am very, very excited and proud that I decided like this because now when I have been here for at least one and a half months, it feels right.
“It feels good. The team is brilliant. We have some very good, but always calm and nice players. It is fun to player here at Chelsea and to be part of the team. We can do very well with this team in the next few months and the next few years.”
Declan Rice to Chelsea is increasingly unlikely with claims the Blues board having reservations about his abilities.
We have done some wonderful transfer business already this summer and have built quite a squad, but there is a big feeling that they still want to add rice to the side before the end of the transfer window
The England international Rice made his 100th league appearance for the Hammers last Saturday in their season opener against Newcastle, which they lost 2-0, but he is regarded as one of the finest holding midfielders in the game.
But according to transfer guru David Ornstein, there are said to be doubts within the club that he is technically good enough to rejoin, having been released as a kid, and add that to the fact that West Ham are determined to keep hold of the 21-year-old, we have a fight on their hands.
Only a huge offer could tempt them into a rethink but with the hierarchy harbouring doubts and having spent over £200m already this summer, a massive offer is not expected to arrive before the end of the transfer window.
Look, Rice has proven himself over the past couple of seasons to be a classy Premier League players, and there are many out there that are keen to try and get a deal done, they just do not have the funds to make a move.
