Steve Nicol has urged Chelsea manager Frank Lampard to sign West Ham midfielder Declan Rice to help unleash Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.
West Ham midfielder Declan Rice is a player that has been heavily linked with a move to the Bridge, especially as he is eager to make that step up in the game and avoid another relegation battle next season with the Hammers.
And amid all the speculation Nicol has opened up and urged the lcub to complete a deal for Rice, as his arrival would mean that the club would be able to unleash Werner and possible new signing Havertz, who is expected to make the move to Stamford Bridge in the coming days.
‘I think [a move for Declan Rice] makes sense,’ Nicol told ESPN FC.
‘I think when you already have N’Golo Kante, if you bring Declan Rice in then you can play all the forwards that seem to be either at Chelsea right now or are going to Chelsea, and by that I mean the likes of Timo Werner who’s there and it seems like Kai Havertz is going to be there as well.
‘You can play those two – Declan Rice and N’Golo Kante – as two defensive midfielders and let another four ahead of them get after it in the attack.
‘So listen, it makes sense because Declan Rice is a great player, he’s maturing and getting better season after season.
‘I don’t think he’s quite hit his peak yet but this would make complete sense to me for Chelsea and I think for Declan Rice as well.’
Ashley Cole hopes Chelsea can add Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz to the signings of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.
Fans know this transfer rumour very well and are just waiting for the club to agree a fee for Havertz before they can officially announce that the talented midfielder is a Blue for next seasons.
We moved early in the window to secure deal for Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, who are considered two of the most attacking players in Europe right now, and Havertz is expected to be the final piece of the attack next season.
And Blues hero Cole feels Havertz will make his former side a force to be reckoned with next season and is happy with the work his former team-mate Frank Lampard has done: ‘Frank has had a brilliant first season and added two players, and maybe Havertz as well,’ Cole told StatsPerformNews.
‘Our attacking threat is amazing and the fans will be happy.
‘Hopefully they can add Havertz to make their attacking threat even more potent. It is a young squad, with young players who have top quality and have played in top leagues being added.
‘It’s good to see them at Chelsea and hopefully they can quickly integrate into the team ahead of next season.’

The 21-year-old joined from Bristol City at the age of 14 and enjoyed plenty of success growing up at Cobham, featuring in every game as we won the FA Youth Cup for the third year running in 2015/16.
Vitória had already signed a couple other players from England in recent transfer windows, and now they have convinced Maddox to make the move.
And after completing his transfer deal, the midfielder opened up and announced on the Vitoria official website: “I am very excited. I followed Vitória over the last season and realizing how much Edwards and Suliman like to be here and feel valued here, it is obvious that I was very happy when this opportunity arose and it was an immediate ‘yes’.
“In addition to what I already knew, having talked to the President and [sporting director] Carlos Freitas was very important because I understood how ambitious the project is. I like this bet on the talent of young players and I can’t wait for the start.”
“I am a player who tries to make things happen, but I am also a team player, who understands the defensive side of the game. I want the team to count on me and that we have a great season together.”
Lille owner Gerard Lopez has confirmed that Chelsea-linked Gabriel will leave the club this summer.
The 22-year-old helped Christophe Galtier’s side secure another top-four finish in 2019-20, featuring in 24 games before French football authorities called off the campaign in April, and his performances have led to rumours that we are keen on a deal.
Now, Lopez has now revealed that Lille have given the talented centre-half the green light to speak to potential suitors, while promising that the club will advise him on the best next step in his fledgeling career.
“The way we work is very simple,” the 48-year-old businessman told BBC World Service’s World Football.
“We explain to him and his environment, his agent, what we are looking for, and once we get those offers the choice is his, like we did with Nico [Pepe] and Victor [Oshimen].
“We are there now, so we told him: ‘Eventually you have to make a decision but we’re not pressing you.’ I think he will make it this week, or next week at the latest. He is leaving, we’ve given the OK for that.
“There’s a lot of competition. He’s a young player so he’s got to make sure he makes the right decision. We help him out a little bit so we tell him: ‘We think this might be the right manager or club for you.’
“He’s got so much talent, he will succeed wherever he goes.”
Gabriel is a very gifted defender and for the money that he is going fro, we wouldnt mind his summer arrival.
