Sorry Auba as Chelsea fans told incoming arrival Timo Werner ‘a better signing’
Timo Werner would be a better signing for Chelsea than Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to former Blues midfielder Craig Burley
We have been linked with a move for Arsenal captain Aubameyang, who is out of contract in 2021, and who is also reportedly refusing to sign a new deal at the Emirates as he simply wants to start winning trophies.
But reports in the media over the past few days have revealed that we have agreed a deal to bring Timo Werner to the Premier League, and Burley says Werner being 24 is a huge plus point.
“Magnificent signing if it happens,” Burley said on ESPN FC.
“Ticks all the boxes, he’s got over 30 goals this season, it was over 20 last season and the season before.
“So the consistency’s there, the flexibility’s there, the work-rate’s there, the pace is there, he can play off the left where he has quite a lot, he can play through the middle, and of course he’s a goalscorer.
“On top of that he’s 24 and that was the big thing.
“We talked about Chelsea’s potential interest a few days ago in Aubameyang who’s an excellent player.
“But he’s 31 [this month] and I think Lampard and Chelsea are trying to go down the route of younger players, quality players who may have a sell-on at some point.
“So this ticks all the boxes for Chelsea if they can get it done. A magnificent signing.”
Look, there was no doubt that we needed to add another striker to the side, all fans wanted to see it, but we couldnt have imagined that a deal for the brillian Werner would have been struck, he is a top-class striker that will improve our side massively.
He is a much better signing that Auba right now, especially as the Gunners star is coming towards the back-end of his career.
