Star tells boss ‘he wants to leave’ and join Chelsea this January
Enzo Fernandez has told Roger Schmidt that he wants to leave Benfica and join Chelsea this January transfer window.
After a stunning World Cup in which he helped Lionel Messi fulfil his lifeling dream – there has been alot of speculation about the future of the talented Fernandez.
It has been widely claimed on many occasions that he is a player that we are keen on and want to bring to London – with suggestions that a record offer has already been submitted
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has now reported that Fernandez has informed his current manager Schmidt that he wants to leave.
A move to Stamford Bridge is said to be a ‘main priority’ for the player, with the Blues ready to spend big on their new signing.
Graham Potter’s side are set to pay around £105million for his services, which would make him the Premier League’s most expensive ever signing – beating Jack Grealish’s £100m move from Aston Villa to Man City.
Sky Sports lead reporter Kaveh Solhekol recently said on the Enzo Fernandez deal: “Chelsea are locked in talks with Benfica to sign Enzo Fernandez. If they sign him, he will become the Premier League’s most expensive signing ever.
“His release clause is €120m, roughly £106m. He would cost more than Jack Grealish did.
“Chelsea are prepared to pay more than the release clause to get this deal done as quick as possible. They don’t want to pay the release clause in full, they want to pay in instalments. That’s what is being negotiated at the moment.
“As far as Benfica are concerned, they would like the player to stay. They want him to sign a new contract. He’s only been there for five or six months.
“If Benfica do manage to sell him for £106m they would be making an incredible profit.”
