Silva says his goodbyes, Chilwell opens up after move, Silva will do well at Chelsea Werner – Pulisic claim made in icchelseanews roundup…

Ben Chilwell hopes to replicate Ashley Cole’s success at Chelsea after completing a move to the club from Leicester.

After months and months of transfer speculation, it was revealed last night that we had finally agreed to bring Chilwell to London in a deal that would cost the club around £50 million, as Frank Lampard gets the left-back he so most desired.

And after making that move to to the club Chilwell has  revealed that Frank Lampard was a big reason why he made the move to Stamford Bridge

“It’s great for myself, I’ve got that benchmark of what a great Chelsea left-back is,” he told the club’s website when asked about following in Cole’s footsteps.

“I grew up watching Ashley Cole play so I know how respected he is here and again that was a big reason for me wanting to come.

“I feel like I’m still young and I want that sort of career that he had at Chelsea for myself as well.”

The 23-year-old revealed that his talks with the coach were pivotal in convincing him to make the move.

“[Lampard was] massively important. Obviously I wanted to play for a massive club, that’s what everyone wants for their whole career, but talking to Frank before I came was one of the main reasons I wanted to come,” he added.

“He instilled a lot of confidence in me, told me how much the system suits the way I play and seemed like a really good guy that you can talk to about stuff away from football. I think that’s very important for a young player, having a manager that you can get on with and talk to stuff about.

“He’s very keen on young players, we’ve seen that since he’s been here and talking to him was a massive reason for me wanting to come.

“When you work under a manager who was a player himself, I think that’s really important. He was a great player not just for Chelsea but for England as well. Hopefully he can help me with my career for however long and hopefully he can give me a lot of advice and I hope I have as good a career as he had.

“When I spoke to the gaffer he kind of instilled what I already knew, that this system does suit me. When I watch Chelsea play I look at the full-backs and think: ‘That’s perfect for me, that’s my game down to a t’. I literally can’t wait to get started and hopefully many great years to come.”

Red Bull Salzburg coach Jesse Marsch is confident that Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic will form a lethal partnership at Chelsea next season.

Pulisic showed just how good he was towards the back-end of the season by helping the club reach that FA Cup final get back into the Champions League spots with some stunning performances.

His displays at the club now mean that he is all set to be the main man this coming season, but he will be helped by the arrival of Timo Werner, who completed his £54 million move earlier in the season.

And Marsch is in no doubt that that wehave got themselves a bargain, as the American coach feels that Werner is just as suited to English football as Pulisic: “Timo is an incredible talent and an aggressive attacker and a great scorer and an intelligent footballer,” Marsch told Goal about the former Leipzig striker.

“Chelsea, for a relatively cheap price, have picked up a world-class player.

“I am really excited for Timo because a lot of Germans don’t leave. I am really excited that Timo is moving outside of his comfort zone to challenge himself at a different level and I think that he will be rewarded for it in his career.

“He is a cut-throat attacker and the potential for him and Christian to be a good pair is really, really high.”

Thiago Silva took to social media on Wednesday to bid farewell to the Paris Saint-Germain faithful ahead of his move to Chelsea.

Silva has been in the headlines over the past few weeks, as there has been constant rumours that he is heading to the Premier League, with a number of clubs interested after he left PSG on a free transfer.

But at the very last minute, we swooped in and offered him a two-year contract to make the move to the Bridge, as Frank Lampard seeks to add a leader to his back-line, and ahead of his move to London, Silva has officially said his goodbyes to his PSG team-mates.

“The value of things is not in the time that they last, but in the intensity with which they occur. That is why there are unforgettable moments, inexplicable things and incomparable people,” wrote the centre-back, using Pessoa’s famous phrase.

“Today a cycle is ended, after eight years at PSG, I would like to thank my team-mates, the entire coaching staff and board, the fans, my family, God and my friends, for all of the happy years we have spent in the City of Light.

“Here, together with my wife, we have enjoyed unforgettable moments, our children grew up, we became French citizens, and we will carry forever in our hearts these years lived in France. Thank you so much.”

Brazilian legend Rivaldo has claimed that Defender Thiago Silva will do a great job at Chelsea ahead of his move

Having conceded 54 Premier League goals last season, the worst record in the top half and 21 more than champions Liverpool, it was clear that head coach Frank Lampard was not going to end his transfer business with Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

Silva won seven Ligue 1 titles during his time in France, but leaves the club having failed to achieve the European success desired most in Paris, and he is expected to commit his future to the Blues through to 2023.

Now fellow countryman is certain that he will add a new dimension to Lampard’s current squad while also serving as a role model for the club’s younger players, he told Betfair: “At 35, Thiago Silva will sign for two seasons with Chelsea and I’m confident that he will do a great job there, as he is a great centre back with excellent positioning and vast experience of world football.

“I think he still comes with plenty to offer. I’d back him to produce a good football in the Premier League and should be a commanding voice in Frank Lampard’s otherwise young squad.

“Nowadays, many players extend their careers until their late-thirties and Silva is a good example of that, as I was in my time.

‘If you keep yourself in good physical condition you can easily play at the highest level until 36, 37 years old.”
