Thiago signs contract, Club makes Silva announcement and Chelsea close in on Digne deal in IcChelseanews roundup…

Thelsea director Marina Granovskaia has revealed just why Chelsea decided to hand Thiago Silva a nice new contract to sign

Silva has made 22 appearances so far this season, including 17 in the Premier League, and has made this defence so much more better since he arrived at the club, and become a real fans favourite because of that.

The former AC Milan man, who has 102 caps for Brazil, admits that he did not expect to be playing for the club for three seasons when he arrived in London, but now he will be staying another season after agreeing a deal.

And after confirming that a deal had been struck with the Brazilian, director Marina Granovskaia has opened up and revealed just why the club opted to extend the stay of Silva at Stamford Bridge, rather than add a new defender to the squad at the end of the season.

She told the club website: ‘Thiago Silva’s experience, leadership and performances have been and remain very important to this squad, so we are hugely pleased to extend his contract by another year.

‘We look forward to his continued influence as we seek honours this season and next, and more of the qualities that have led to him having such a big impact for us on and off the pitch.’

We are massive fans of Silva and have been for more than 15 years now, he is really is a legendary defender that has won everything in the game. He may be getting on in years, but he is still one of the best defenders in the Premier League, so keeping him for another year is a great decision from the club

It is great news that he has agreed to stay put and signed a new contract for next season.

Chelsea are seemingly closing in on a transfer deal to secure the services of Lucas Digne from Everton.

Despite the fact last month Thomas Tuchel admitted that we would not be doing alot of transfer business during the course of January, a number of injuries has meant that the club will have to delve into that transfer kitty.

Ben Chilwell, the number one left-back at the club. is out for the rest of the season after having surgery on his knee and with only Marcos Alonso left in the squad, a move for Digne has been mooted.

Regarded as one of the finest in the Premier League, Digne has reportedly fallen out of favour with current boss Rafa Benitez and Everton are reportedly willing to let him leave the club before the 31st January.

Now it seems that we are closing in on a possible deal after transfer expert Fabrizio Romano opened up and claimed that the Frenchman is expected to depart the club, as the Merseyiders close in on a deal for Nathan Patterson

He Tweeted: ‘Deal set to be completed for Nathan Patterson to join Everton from Rangers. Negotiation at final stages as per @_pauljoyce – he’ll be Toffees second signing after Mykolenko. 🔵 #EFC

‘Fee around €11m plus add ons. Lucas Digne still expected to leave this month.’

It has been a massive shock to see that Digne has fallen down the pecking order with Everton and fans will be sad to see him leave the club this month. But if we do manage to get a transfer deal done, he would be a solid addition

He is an upgrade on Marcos Alonso and will give Chilwell a great challenge when he returns, so again, for the right money, he could be a solid signing for the club

Thiago Silva has admitted he is delighted to have agreed another contract with Chelsea.

Silva is regarded as one of the finest defenders of his generation and has proven many critics wrong who suggested that he was far too old to produce in the English top flight.

Silva has made 22 appearances so far this season, including 17 in the Premier League, and has made this defence so much more better since he arrived at the club, and become a real fans favourite because of that.

The former AC Milan man, who has 102 caps for Brazil, admits that he did not expect to be playing for Chelsea for three seasons when he arrived in London, but has announced his delight after agreeing that deal with the club

‘To play here with Chelsea is a real pleasure. I never thought I would play for three years here in this great club so I’m very happy to stay for another season,’ he said.

‘I would also like to say thanks to my family, the club, Marina and to Mr Abramovich for this opportunity. I will continue to give everything for this club and for the supporters, who have always been by my side since I arrived.

‘It’s amazing to have this relationship with the fans and not only that but the players, staff and the whole club. I’m going to give everything to keep playing at this level in the most important league in the world.’

Nobody could have assumed that Silva would be so good at the club when he arrived at the club. But he fully deserves that new contract that he has signed. He is a massive player for Chelsea and this deal would delight many fans

Lets hope he can keep producing and stay put, it has been a privilage to see him in the Premier League
