Wigan Athletic have announced the signing of forward Dion Rankine from Premier League side CHELSEA on a three-year deal.

Having featured eight times for the clubs U21s in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, the 21-year-old headed to Exeter City last summer for his first loan in professional football, where he was a huge success.

However – the decision was made by the player to seek a move away from the club as he knew his time was up – and Wigan come calling very quickly in order to get a transfer deal done for the lad.

And after making the summer move – Rankine has opened up and admitted just how excited and delighted he is with the switch: “I’m so excited to be here,” Dion expressed.

“It’s been in the works for a while, so I’m really excited to be here and get the deal done – I can’t wait to get out there in front of the fans now.

“It’s the right step for my career. I feel like I’ve got a really good opportunity to progress and develop, and I just want to play the best football that I can here.”

“It’s amazing. I’ve been to the training ground, and I’ve seen the stadium here, which is beautiful. When I was here last season with Exeter, I was taking pictures and thinking that the stadium is really nice, and hopefully, I can get playing as soon as possible.”

With one final message to supporters, Dion added: “I can’t wait to see you all soon and be out there in front of you all, and hopefully, get some goals and assists.’
