Lamps urged to sign £70 million defender, Christensen on Chelsea future, Pulisic reveals excitement at summer Chelsea arrivals
Pulisic announces excitement, Rice message sent and Christensen wants Chelsea future in icchelseanews daily roundup..
Christian Pulisic insists he is ‘excited’ to play with new Chelsea signings Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech
The coronavirus is still dominating the world, and people still need to stay safe, but the good news for fans is that they get to see the arrivals of both Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, who are regarded as two of the finest players in Europe, and two signings that will add more goals and creativity to the side.
And one player that is excited about the signings of the duo this summer if Pulisic, who has opened up and admitted that he is excited about the idea of playing with Werner and Ziyech next season.
He told Sky Sports: ‘I’m excited to work with them. ‘It’s fun to play with good players, it’s easy to play with them and those are two guys we know that are really talented guys so I’m really looking forward to it.
‘We can have a really strong team next season. I think there’s still work that needs to be done [to catch Liverpool and Man City].
‘You can see this year that those two, especially Liverpool, have been just so consistent and dominant and that’s right where we want to be.
‘We want to continue to be that consistent team week in week out, in tough games, midweek games. We want to be ready and be up for the challenge always.
‘And that’s what it’s going to take. We still have our work to do but that’s where we want to be.
‘We want to continue to win trophies, that’s always a goal. We want to continue to be a strong team, contending for that Premier League title.’
Matthew Upson believes Chelsea transfer target Declan Rice ‘ticks the boxes’ to be a potential long-term replacement for John Terry.
It is no secret that we have a great attack that has the ability to score on a regular basis, and with the arrivals of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, it will get better, but here are some questions at the back.
And one name that has been linked with a big move is that of Rice, who has become one of the most talked about players in the Premier League and Now, amid all the speculation, Upson believes Rice ‘ticks the boxes’ to be a potential long-term replacement for John Terry
Speaking to the Athletic about the 21-year-old’s potential, the former England and West Ham star said: ‘I know Declan very well, it is why he has done so well and established himself at West Ham so quickly. He has that personality you need.
‘The characteristics we talk about regarding John Terry — his instincts, communication, leadership — that is Declan Rice. He ticks the boxes.
‘I worked a lot with Declan when I was with West Ham Under-23s. He is a fantastic communicator, he is very mature for his age, has leadership mentality and personality.
[the_ad id=”164″]‘The issue is: he hasn’t played a lot at centre-back in the Premier League. He has shown how good a defensive midfielder he is, he is one of the best around at the moment and potentially will be the best.
‘But I worked with him when he was playing as a centre-back. He is capable of playing in that position. It is difficult to know what impact he’d make at Chelsea because it depends on so many things — who does he play with?
‘Would the team be strong enough when he first goes back to playing at centre-half as a young player still? He is just 21. But he is an absolutely brilliant lad.’
Andreas Christensen believes his long-term future will lie at Chelsea, with the Danish defender having earned the “trust” of Frank Lampard.
There has been alot of speculation about the possible signings that Frank Lampard will continue to make during the summer transfer window, with reports that a new central defender and left-back may be required by the boss.
That would mean that the likes of Christensen, Fikayo Tomori and Antonio Rudiger would all have to fight for a spot in the side, and with defenders usually playing 90 per cent of the games, a new central defender could hinder their development under Lampard
However, Christensen has opened up and announced that he believes his long-term future will lie, as he is feeling happy and settled once again.
“At least that’s what I think [that Lampard is betting on him for the future],” Christensen told BT.
“I can only try to show that I deserve that trust, and I try to show that in every single match.
“When you [are on the bench], of course, you are not happy, but when the others play well, I can do nothing but train.
“I’ve been getting a lot of games again [and] then you feel that you are believed in and that they trust you.”
The young man has been decent this season in a Blues shirt and we are hoping that he is able to push on from his solid performances this season and become the top-class defender that many have tipped him to become.
Saying that, we wouldnt mind seeing a world class defender signed by Lamps, just to give us a bit more extra in defence.
