Barcelona have no intention of selling Chelsea target Frenkie de Jong – claims club president Joan Laporta.

The Netherlands international has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer following the appointment of Erik ten Hag, who is reportedly keen to be reunited with his former Ajax midfielder.

Recent reports have even claimed De Jong has made a U-turn and is now willing to join the Red Devils, having previously been adamant he has no reason to leave the Nou Camp.

It has also been claimed that Barcelona are very much open to the idea of letting him leave as they are in need of funds due to their ongoing financial issues – and would accept a fee of £60M for the midfielder

Man United are hopeful of signing the midfielder and want to get the deal wrapped up this month- but according to The Guardian – the club have now made their moves

It is no secret that Thomas Tuchel feels that he needs to freshen up his squad with a few world class players – and considering the club are missing a player like De Jong in the middle of the pitch – He is a player that they admire

The club were heavily keen on De Jong before he made the move to Barcelona – and having seen the troubles that Man United are having in wrapping up a transfer deal – the opportunity is really there

But it seems that both clubs will not be able to complete a deal for the midfielder after Laporta opened up and revealed that they have no intentions of selling De Jong this summer

“We have no intention of selling him and he wants to stay,” the president stated. “Manchester United is not the only one who wants him.”

“Frenkie is considered as one of the best midfielders in the world by all the experts. We are happy to have him.”
