Frenchman Pires opens up and tells Chelsea to complete big deal for legend Zidane
Arsenal legend Robert Pires has urged Chelsea to replace under-fire boss with former Real Madrid ace Zinedine Zidane.
Despite a turn in results over the past few weeks, there has been a lot of speculation in the media that he is just a few bad results away from getting the sack after failing to keep us in the hunt for a Premier League title, an FA Cup win and maybe a Carabao Cup victory.
And that has led to rumours we could make a move for Zidane at the end of the season with the Frenchman keen to get back into management and Roman Abramovic keen to fire another top boss and move on to the next one.
Now Pires has urged the clubs to make a move for Zidane as he would be a very good appointment by the club.
“It’s a very strange situation with Chelsea and how they treat their managers,’ Pires told Bwin.
‘Sarri is a very good manager and he performed very well with Napoli, but it’s hard to see him at the club next season. There appears to be a lot of player power at Chelsea that he is struggling to overcome like many have before him.
‘I think Zidane would be a very good appointment at Chelsea. He would demand respect from the Chelsea players and control the dressing room as a result of everything he has achieved both on the pitch as a player and on the bench as a manager.
‘He’s a winner and a warrior. He’s had great success in the Champions League which is attractive to the Chelsea owner. It would be very good news for the Premier League if Zidane moved to England.’
Would Zidane be the right answer?
Sarri is a brilliant coach and we honestly believe that he should be given more of a chance to get things right before Abramovic does his thing and sacks another world class coach.
Zidane is decent but he is not the answer to our long-term problems here at the club.
