Chelsea starlet Mason Mount has opened up and announced that he will keep a close eye on the rising Billy Gilmour.

Gilmour has been in the headlines for all the right reasons over the past few weeks and is making all the right noises with his impressive performances against Liverpool and Everton, which earned the young man back-to-back Man Of the Match awards.

His performances has led to a lot of speculation that he could leave, or that he could get a new contract at the club to end all the rumours surrounding his future, but right now he needs to keep his focus and stay concentrated on becoming a top-class midfielder.

Mount is still in the early throes of his Career and after seeing his team-mate pick up another MOTM award, Mount was quick to praise the impact of his fellow Academy graduate and his effortless step up to senior football, he told the Chelsea website:‘That’s just Billy. ‘I’m not surprised. I know what he is as a player and as a boy.

‘I’m very close to him so I know what character he is and I had no doubts whatsoever about him stepping up and performing the way he has in the last two games. I have massive confidence in him and he shows it when he comes out onto the pitch.’

‘He’s been dominant and confident on the ball, which is what you want,’ Mount went on. The young players coming through are going to have these challenges. It’s obviously a big achievement to make it into the first team, to start a game at home at Stamford Bridge.

‘He’s very grounded, got a good family around him and he’s a very screwed-on boy so it won’t get to him at all. I won’t let it get to him either – I’ll keep him grounded so he’ll be fine!”

We are producing some very fine talents that will eventually develop into some big time players, and Gilmour is one of them. But the media is getting carried away and he needs to make sure that he doesn’t go down the wrong road, like so many young players ahead of him.
