Newcastle are close to finalising a new contract with CHELSEA transfer target Joelinton after a series of positive meetings with the player and his representatives, according to The Telegraph.

Joelinton only has 15 months remaining on his existing deal and would have been made available for transfer in the summer if he did not agree to extend.

There has been alot of rumours in the media that we were ready to swoop in and offer the big man a move to a big club in the coming transfer window.

However – the expected announcement of the extension will be a huge boost to Eddie Howe and the Newcastle board, who had made a successful conclusion to these problematic contract talks their main priority before the end of the season.

Replacing Joelinton in midfield would be a huge challenge and Howe has consistently stressed the club had to fight to keep him, so the news that he is about to agree a new contract will be massive for the Toon.

Newcastle may have some trouble signing the type of players that they need too in the summer window – so making sure that they keep hold of their star players is something that the board need to make sure happens.
