Stopper Edouard Mendy is ready to make the step up to Chelsea, but he will not be made immediate number one fans have been told.
It is no secret that Lampard is desperate to add another stopper to the squad in the final weeks of the transfer window, and we have agreed to bring the big Edouard Mendy to the club in a deal that will cost the club £27 million.
But French football expert Jonathan Johnson doesn’t reckon Mendy will immediately displace the Spanish shot-stopper as No1, but he will feel very confident that he is capable of taking that spot off Kepa.
He told Sky Sports: “I think he feels ready now for the step up to the Premier League.
“I’m not certain he will be expecting to walk straight into the Chelsea starting XI.
“But he will feel confident that he can pressure on for that starting berth in goal.
“And i think his greater consistency could be his key asset in perhaps dislodging Kepa between the sticks.”
Having two quality stoppers in the squad will only be a good thing for the club as it will mean that Lampard has options when things are not going right with the other.
And Mendy has proven that he is ready to make the step up, but once he gets here, he needs to show that he should stay here and stay at the top of the game.
We dont want players signed that wont ad quality to the squad.
