Maresca speaks out after seeing £33 million Chelsea deal get confirmed!
Enzo Maresca was asked on whether it was tough that he didn’t have the chance to work with Conor Gallagher before he was sold to Atletico Madrid by CHELSEA
Gallagher enjoyed a good season under Mauricio Pochettino last season and become an established member of the squad, even captaining the side on a number of occasions and earning himself a seat on that plane for England at the Euros.
But the club decided to sell the England star after continuing their incredible spending spree this summer, signing the likes of Pedro Neto, Tosin Adarabioyo, Omari Kellyman and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
And after seeing the move happen – Maresca was asked on whether it was tough that he didn’t have the chance to work with Conor Gallagher before he was sold to Atletico Madrid
Maresca said: “In this moment, it’s not only for CHELSEA; many clubs are selling players from their academies. That is very sad because we all love, like I said in America, in Italy we have [Francesco] Totti who played for Roma for 20 years, was his team. We all love that.
“But now in this moment, the rules are a bit different and sometimes you need to sell your academy players to have 100% profit. It’s the situation but also the rules are there, so we need to try to respect the rules.”
