Chelsea told players who could Hazard and Sarri confirms contract talks with Brazilian

Maurizio Sarri has revealed that Chelsea are still in talks with David Luiz about signing a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

Luiz has been an integral part of the set-up this season under Maurizio Sarri and has looked very impressive at times for the Blues, but there has been constant speculation in the media that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season after failing to agree a new contract with the club.

Sarri was reportedly ready to spend big money in the transfer window and reinvent the side, with the Italian boss looking to acquire the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly, Alessio Romagnoli or even Tody Alderweireld, but those plans have been put on hold.

But talks with Luiz have been renewed, the Italian confirmed after Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt.

“I don’t know on David Luiz, I know that he had a meeting four or five days ago, but then my mind was on this match,” said Sarri on the SKY Sports website

“I didn’t ask him the result of it.

Meanwhile, Wayne Bridge has claimed that only Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi could replace Eden Hazard  if he leaves at the end of the season.

There has been much talk in the media about which players could depart the club and seek a fresh challenge in the game, and one name that has been constantly linked with a move away is that of Hazard, who is the main source of goals having netted 26 times this season for Maurizio Sarri.

We signed Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund in January, with the USA international a potential replacement for Madrid-bound Hazard, But Bridge doubts anyone – bar modern greats Messi and Ronaldo – are capable of replacing Hazard.

He told Goal: ‘If Chelsea lose Hazard, I don’t know how they could replace him. I couldn’t think who they would sign because Hazard is one of the best players in the world.

‘I would think only Messi or Ronaldo could replace him. I think if they do lose him, they can’t replace him. That’s why I worry that Chelsea could struggle even more than they are doing at the moment. He has been a huge part of the club’s season with goals and assists.

‘I would love to see Hazard stay to help the club compete and he has been so good for the league, but we don’t know what will happen.’
