40-goal a season possible Chelsea signing called foolish ahead of potential exit

Chelsea target Robert Lewandowski’s protracted contract stand-off with Bayern Munich is “annoying”, according to former player Markus Babbel

Lewandowski’s Allianz Arena contract runs until 2023. And club chiefs are hopeful he will stay and finish his career at the club, despite the fact that talks have not been opened for the striker

It is no secret that the possible new Chelsea owners will be looking to add a striker to that attack in the summer, and despite his age, Lewandowski is a man that continues to score goals on a weekly basis.

He could leave for nothing in June 2023 or, if the Bundesliga giants decide to cash in, possibly go this summer, and A number of clubs are beginning to circle – and now he has been slammed for the contract situation at the club

Babbel feels Lewandowski’s stance is foolish, pointing to team-mate Thomas Muller as a model of comparison and claiming that the attacker should show more gratefulness to the club.

“This howling around is annoying,” Babbel told Sky Sports Germany. “It is said that the appreciation is not enough for him, I can’t hear that anymore. No player has received as much appreciation as Lewandowski has at Bayern in the last 20 years.”

“Thomas Muller, for example, doesn’t make such a circus out of it. Lewandowski earns €25 million and wants more. No other Bayern player earns that much.

“There were times when he wanted to leave permanently, Bayern stood by him because they think a lot of him. There’s a bit of gratitude – not just demands.”
