World class signing backed for Chelsea success, Chelsea make offer to sign stopper, and Leboeuf on Silva move to Premier League
Silva backed for success, Chelsea make second offer to sign up stopper Mendy, Lebouf on Silva deal in icchelseanews roundup..
Chelsea icon Frank Leboeuf has questioned whether Thiago Silva boasts the “character” to shine in the Premier League.
We have been looking for a leader to come in and help shore up that back-line this transfer window, and despite being linked with some world class defenders, we decided to make the bargain move to sign up Silva on a free deal.
Many are sceptical about just what he can bring to the club, and although leboeuf has claimed that he believes Silva is a fantastic player, he does have some concerns about whether or not Silva can be a success in the Premier League.
The ex-Blues centre-half as quoted on GOAL: “He’s definitely a fantastic player.
“We have been talking about character – he’s been questioned a lot at Paris Saint-Germain and also after the 2014 World Cup about non-character, that the guy is crying very easily and is maybe why PSG didn’t win the Champions League.
“He has been criticised a lot and I’ve never been very nice to him. For example, Marquinhos is stronger mentally than him, but he is definitely a fantastic player.
“He is not done yet, he is still in good shape and he will fit into the Premier League for sure.”
Chelsea have reportedly submitted a second offer for Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy as they seek to continue their summer of spending.
We are on the hunt for a new goalkeeper this summer as Frank Lampard prepares to axe Kepa Arrizabalaga ahead of the new season after the Spaniard failed to impress the club legend with his performances last season.
And that has led to alot of speculation that the likes of Jan Oblak,Emiliano Martinez and even Marc-Andre Ter Stegen have all been linked with a move to the club.
But with Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Arsenal all keen to keep hold of their stoppers, we have been eyeing up other targets this summer, and one such player is Mendy, who has been impressing over in the French Leagues.
[the_ad id=”164″]Recent reports on TELEFOOT claimed we are seeking to continue their summer of spending by trying to bring Mendy to the club, with reports claiming that they have made a £14.3 million offer for the stopper, which was quickly rejected by his current club.
But now, according to Goal France, an improved €20m offer has been submitted by the club and the French outfit are seriously considering the offer, as it pretty much matches what they are seeking for the talented ace.
Craig Burley has backed Thiago Silva to be a huge success at Chelsea after his move to London.
After eight successful seasons over the in the French League, the Brazilian decided that he wanted to leave and have one big hurrah in the Premier League, and eventually agreed a one-year contract at the club.
And Burley believes that he will be a success with the club, especially with the club crying out for someone to provide an assured presence at the heart of their back four, The former Blues midfielder told ESPN FC of the Silva deal: “Although it’s not ideal signing a player who is going to be 36 very soon, he is a player who has just played in the Champions League final and is a player who is hugely experienced, is still fit and sharp enough and can organise and lead that back line – a back line that really struggled for most of the season.
“There is no inherent risk here, apart from it might not work! There is no financial outlay apart from salary so I think it’s an excellent signing short-term when you consider the dearth of real quality centre-halves out there.
“It makes absolute sense and Frank Lampard will be hoping that he can bring the organisational qualities that he has done for club and country over the last decade.”
Only time will tells if Silva was a good buy for the club, but we are massive fans of Silva and beleive that he is the leader that we have been lacking to get closer to the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City next season
