Chelsea issued Kounde message, Kenedy announcement imminent and fans get Kounde update in top Chelsea news…
Frank Leboeuf has questioned Chelsea’s pursuit of Jules Kounde and says Thomas Tuchel does not need another defender
There is a strong feeling that adding another defender to that back-line is something that Thomas Tuchel would like to do over the next few weeks, and Kounde is a player that is high up on the shopping list
The defender is currently worth around the £68 million mark and that is what is holding up any potential deal for the defender, as the club do not want to pay that much after securing Romelu Lukaku for close to £100 million
However, amid all the rumours that we are keen on Kounde, Leboeuf has questioned the clubs pursuit of the defender, especially after the impressive performance that Trevor Chalobah put in over the weekend.
Asked whether Chelsea need to sign Kounde considering the number of defenders already at Stamford Bridge, Leboeuf told ESPN: ‘That’s a good question, that’s a very good question.
‘I almost had tears in my eyes when I saw Trevoh Chalobah scoring, it was absolutely fantastic. He was very good in the Super Cup and was good against Crystal Palace.
‘I’m very fond of that player and I have doubts that Chelsea need another defender. They already have lots of defenders and Chalobah is already on top of who we were thinking of.
‘So what’s the point? Kounde is a fantastic player but you cannot make everyone happy so what’s the point having Chalobah, Zouma, Christensen, Rudiger, Thiago when most of them will be on the bench?
‘You have to make choices, you have two places for five or six players, it’s too many. If Chalobah keeps playing like this, they don’t need Kounde.’
This transfer rumour has been circling for some time now, so it will be interesting to see if we do make a move in the coming weeks
Chelsea have reportedly agreed to loan out Kenedy to Flamengo.
Thomas Tuchel has just managed to persuade the board to splash almost £100 million on the signing of Romelu Lukaku, meaning that the club will need to sell a few players in order to get some of that cash back.
And that means players, like Kenedy, who has not really been able to make any sort of impact at the club since his move to the club, is all set to depart Stamford Bridge for a move back to Brazilian football.
Kenedy is out of favour at Stamford Bridge and the winger has been holding talks with Brazilian club Flamengo over a move, and According to Goal, Kenedy is close to agreeing a loan move with the option of a permanent deal.
The 25-year-old is in his final year of his contract and has no realistic prospect of breaking into the side.
Kenedy spent last season on loan at Granada, making 44 appearances and scoring eight goals
The deal is set to have an option to make the move permanent for £8million.
Kenedy was signed by the club as a big talent for the future, but a number of loans and lack of chances at the club has meant that his career in England has not been the success that he had hoped for
So the news that he is going back to Brazilian football is not a big surprise as this would be the best thing for the man.
The announcement will surely be very soon and fans will surely wish the player all the best for his future
Sky Sports News’ Kaveh Solkehol has suggested that Chelsea may not make a move for Jules Kounde this transfer window.
Thomas Tuchel now has one of the very best squads in the Premier League and after managing to get the board to splash the cash on Romelu Lukaku, has a striker that has the ability to find the back of the net on a weekly basis.
But there is a strong feeling that adding another defender to that back-line is something that Tuchel would like to do over the next few weeks, and Kounde is a player that is high up on the shopping list.
Regarded as one of the finest young defenders in the game, Kounde has developed nicely at Sevilla, enough so, that is now valued at a massive £68 million, so would not come cheap when clubs try to make a move.
But amid the speculation, Solkehol has confirmed that the club are still keen on the defender, but may not make a transfer move for the player this summer, he told Sky Sports Transfer talk: “Chelsea do still have an interest in Sevilla’s defender Joules Kounde, but they don’t have an emergency need to sign him and his release clause is about £68m.
“Long-term, they do have quite a few centre backs who will be out of contract next summer, so they do need to sign another – and he’s one of the best out there. But I’m not sure they’ll go out and spend that on him this summer.”
It is very easy to see just why we are very keen on a deal for Kounde, but the squad they have now, the players, should be enough to win Tuchel a couple more trophies over the next 12 months
And then he can see the club splashing the cash for Kounde next summer
