BT Sport pundit legend Rio Ferdinand has tweeted that Frank Lampard is trying to pull off a deal to bring Lionel Messi to Chelsea.
Messi has won a record six Ballon d’Or awards during his time at Barcelona as the top player in the world, and has helped the club win 10 Spanish league titles and four Champions Leagues.
However, after much consideration, The Argentina international, 33, sent a fax to the club on Tuesday saying he wishes to exercise a clause in his contract, allowing him to leave for free with immediate effect.
The transfer request comes after Barca were beaten 8-2 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals on 16 August, with the little maestro unhappy with the direction that Barcelona seem to be heading.
And amid the speculation, Ferdinand has got fans going crazy after he took to Twitter and sensationally announced that Frank Lampard is trying to get Messi to make the move to Stamford Bridge.
He Tweeted: Just heard Frank Lampard is now in for #messi. Some window this if Lamps pulls this off !!”
It is no secret that owner Roman Abramovic is keen on trying to land Messi and has been linked with a number of moves for the Argentine over the past few seasons, but the Barcelona star has always decided to stay.
But look, it would be a massive surprise to see him at the Bridge, and who even says that he is good enough for the Premier League, the guy is now 33 and passed his best.
