Lampard opens up and speaks out on possible January arrival of Ligue 1 powerhouse midfielder Soumare
Frank Lampard has opened up about the possible January signing of Boubarkary Soumare for Chelsea.
The 20-year-old has had an outstanding campaign with fifth-placed Lille in Ligue 1 and is widely regarded as one of the most promising young midfielders in Europe, and his performances have caught the attentions of Lampard.
It is believed that we are interested in signing this young man this month, as he is seen as the perfect long-term replacement for the brilliant Ngolo Kante, who has been linked with a shock exit at the end of the season.
But when asked if we were looking to finalise a deal for Soumare this month, Lampard said on the Daily Express website: “I’m aware of him as a player but he’s not on my radar for this window, to be fair.
“We played against them and I know he’s a good player but that’s one that’s not on the immediate radar, albeit he’s a good player.
“But he’s another club’s player.”
Soumare recently come out and claimed that he is not moving to England this transfer window, but has also admitted he may leave at the end of the season.
He told L’Equipe: “I want to do a full season, yes. I feel good, my team-mates are helping me. It is not time to leave. I don’t want to leave with regrets.
“Yes, of course [I would like to leave], I have already discussed with the coach. I told him very clearly. I have a very clear idea of where I want to go in my career. I know where I am today. And that suits me.”
Kante is one of the best midfielders in the game and cannot be replaced that easy, and despite Soumare being a very good talent, he is not the type of signing that we need right now to help imrpove the side.
If we sign him, he will be welcome, but if we don’t, we wont miss this deal.
