Fans told if TWO top-class units will replace Rudiger at Chelsea

Paul Merson believes that Jules Kounde and Kalidou Koulibaly may not be able to replace Antonio Rudiger at the club

Chelsea have been linked with a whole host of world class defenders over the past few months ever since news broke that Antonio Rudiger would be leaving the club on a free deal.

Kounde is regarded as one of the finest talents in world football right now and a player that has the potential to develop into one of the very best defenders in the game – he is expected to arrive at the club for a fee of £60 million

Koulibaly is one of the most dominant defenders in Italian football right now and a player that has also been linked with a move to the Bridge- with the latest batch of reports suggesting that he is now ready for a fresh new challenge in the game

However – amid all the speculation that we are keen to sign both players – Ex-Gunners star Merson has opened up and claimed that he doe snot believe that either player has the ability to replace Rudiger at Stamford Bridge

The Arsenal icon told Sportskeeda: “Antonio Rudiger’s been absolutely outstanding for Chelsea.

“I can’t remember him having a bad game if I’m being honest.

“He’s been consistently brilliant in the Premier League this season. Rudiger’s going to be a massive miss for Thomas Tuchel next season.

‘He’s going to be a hard one to replace, and I’m not sure if the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly and Jules Kounde can fill his boots.

“If there is a worry for Chelsea this year, it’s finding Rudiger’s replacement.”

There will be 99.9 per cent of fans out there that do not care what Merson has to say on the matter – why is he getting involved?

Rudiger was world class and a firm fans favourite – but Koulibaly is a proven top-class defender that has been playing at the top of the game for a while and Kounde is a player most clubs would love to sign
