Lyon star Memphis Depay said he may finish the season with the Ligue 1 giants after being linked to Chelsea
Since arriving in France, Depay has fired 64 goals in 155 matches, helping Lyon reach the semi-finals of the Champions League last season, and Only Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe (16) has been directly involved in more Ligue 1 goals than Depay (14) this season.
Depay scored twice in Lyon’s 3-2 win over Lens on Wednesday as they moved three points clear at the top, and his performances for the French club this season has led to alot of speculation that we are very interested in a possible deal.
Despite all the attacking quality that we already have at the club, Reports have claimed that Frank Lampard is still seeking to add something different to the side, especially as a number of players have not started the season at their best.
But While he is linked with a move, Depay said he may yet finish the campaign with Lyon rather than depart this month before his contract expired: “I’m happy here. We have a great team, I really like the president, we’ll see what happens,” he told Canal+ following Wednesday’s win.
“The president and I know what happened in the last four seasons. Let’s keep going and enjoy my presence. I might be here until the end of the season.
“Let’s focus on Saturday’s game, let’s be happy, we have a great team.”
If Depay does stay at the French side this month, it would probably be the very best decision to make as it would not be the right time to move on, especially with COVID-19.
We will improve that attack once more, either this month or in the summer, but unless Depay can defend, he is not the right type of player that they need in the coming windows.
There are other areas of the pitch that we need to improve on and adding Depay is not a major concern right now is it?
