Gonzalo Higuain officially announces ‘Sarri wanted me’ at Chelsea
Gonzalo Higuain has admitted he didn’t sign for Chelsea because Maurizio Sarri was the only person that wanted him.
The Argentine striker was on the radar of the Blues all summer long, with reports Maurizio Sarri was keen to add another world class striker to his squad after Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud failed to impress the Italian during their performances last season.
And it seemed Higuain was all set for a move to London, with Juventus ready to cash in and the Blues reportedly in deep talks about a £51 million transfer deal only for the player to make the shock decision to head over to Milan on a season long-loan.
Since then however, Chelsea have been linked with a move for the Argentine striker once again amid speculation both Morata or Giroud could be sold after failing to find the back of the net on a regular basis.
But even though Higuaín admitted he was close to signing for Chelsea, he has admitted he is very happy at the Italians.
He was quoted on the Sky Sports website: “There was a fundamental difference: everyone here [Milan] wanted me, from the club to the coach. Only the coach wanted me at Chelsea.”
Should we make a fresh move for Higuaín in the January transfer window?
Higuaín is a world class striker that could have made a real impact at the club just a few seasons ago, but now we need more of an investment so no we should not go for Higuaín and instead go for the fresher Krzysztof Piatek.
Piatek has scored thirteen goals already this season for Genoa is arguably one of the bets young strikers in world football, and for the £40 million that he is valued at, it would be an absolute bargain for Sarri to complete this deal.
