Hazard announces Chelsea decision made and Blues urged to bring Premier League boss in to replace Sarri

Paul Merson has urged Chelsea to make a move for Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers as a replacement for Maurizio Sarri.

There is a feeling around the media that he could be sacked by owner Roman Abramovic at the end of the season if he fails to win the Europa League title against Arsenal, with the likes of Max Allegri and Mauricio Pochettino linked with a move to the Blues.

But Merson believes Rodgers would be the ideal replacement for the Italian and has urged the club to pull out all the stops to bring him in, after the former Liverpool boss made the move to Leicester earlier in the season.

“Chelsea missed a trick not getting Brendan Rodgers and they should go back in for him this summer if Maurizio Sarri goes,” the former Arsenal attacker told the Daily Star.

“They should pay whatever it costs to get him because he is a perfect fit for Chelsea. He knows the club, plays good football, and is used to the pressure of managing in a tough environment.

“What he’s done at Leicester has been phenomenal. He’s transformed that team and the way they play and if he stays next season, he will probably get them back into Europe.

“Leicester had got used to playing with 30 per cent of the possession sometimes before Rodgers came in. Now they dominate the ball and they play it around like Manchester City at times.

“I think he’s doing a great job and people were wrong to write him off after it all went sour at Liverpool. He’s rediscovered himself at Celtic and now he’s back in the Premier League.

“Sarri has just taken Chelsea into another final and he’s got them back into the Champions League, which is always the minimum requirement.

“But is it enough? I’m not sure. I think alarm bells were ringing when he came out with all that stuff about not being able to motivate his players.

“And if Eden Hazard goes and they can’t sign any players, is he really going to fancy another season of the fans having a go at him?

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s gone in the summer.”

Meanwhile, Eden Hazard has admitted that he has made his decision about whether or not to leave.

It is no secret that Spanish giants Real Madrid are keen to take Hazard away from London and to La Liga, especially as they will be able to acquire his services for a bargain fee.

And now Hazard has revealed that he made the club aware of his decision a few weeks ago, hinting that he is waiting for Madrid to make an official offer for his services in the summer window.

Asked whether Chelsea’s third-place finish altered his decision, Hazard told Sky Sports: ‘No, I don’t think so. I have made my decision, that’s it.

‘I’m still waiting. Yes, [I told the club] a couple of weeks ago.

‘I have made my decision but it is not just about me. We have a final to play and then I will see. I wanted that [to have the situation sorted out] but that’s not happened.

‘I’m still waiting like you are waiting and like the fans are waiting.’
