Rudi Voller opens up and releases Havertz statement with Chelsea seeking to wrap up transfer deal
Bayer Leverkusen are insisting that Kai Havertz must stay with them for the remainder of their Europa League campaign, despite the reports suggesting he wants to jon Chelsea next week.
Weare working on a deal for the highly-rated German attacker, having already signed his compatriot Timo Werner from RB Leipzig earlier this summer for a fee of just £54 million, and recent reports in the media have suggested that Havertz, 21, wants the move to Stamford Bridge too after the club secured qualification for the Champions League.
However, there will be the fans over the next few weeks as Leverkusen’s sporting director Rudi Voller has publicly said it’s ‘set in stone’ that the player will remain in Germany to complete their Europa League campaign.
Leverkusen resume their Europa League campaign on August 6, when they host Rangers in the second leg of their last-16 clash. They hold a 3-1 aggregate advantage from the first leg.
The final is on August 21 and should they go all the way, Chelsea will not be able to wrap up a transfer deal until the end of the month, just a few weeks before the next Premier League seasons starts.
“It is set in stone,” Voller said when asked by Kicker whether Havertz would play for the club in the Europa League. “There is no new stance.”
As long as Havertz signs for the club, fans will surely not care when that is? the transfer window will be open until October, so patience will be a huge factor here.
