Havertz opens up and reveals main reason why he sign for Chelsea this summer
New Chelsea signing Kai Havertz has said the chance to learn from head coach Frank Lampard was a major factor in his decision
Havertz is easily regarded as one of the finest talents in the game right now and the signing that Frank Lampard wanted most, having seen the German net an impressive 36 goals in the last two seasons for Leverkusen
But now that the deal has been done and he is officially our player, The 21-year-old goalscoring midfielder revealed that working under Lampard was a major draw for him.
“Of course he had a big impact on my decision because I loved him as a player and watched him very often, and I think I can learn from him now he is a manager as well,” Havertz told Chelsea’s website of Lampard.
“I think he is a very humble person and a great guy and I can’t wait to play with him and learn from him.
“He was very offensive like me and he loves to score goals, and I love to score goals as well so I think he will help me a lot in my position. Also maybe on the things that I can improve and I can’t wait to work with him.”
“I want to achieve as much as possible, I try to do my best and of course it is a very big step,” Havertz added
“For me it is a new country, a new culture and it is difficult maybe in the first two or three weeks, but then I think I just want to play football and have fun with the boys.
“Of course I want to have big success and we want to win titles here. Chelsea is always a big club and they want to win titles and I try to do my best so we can achieve these things.”
