Chelsea make offer to sign striker with £73 million bid – big decision made

chelsea, premier league

CHELSEA have been unsuccessful in their attempts to sign Viktor Gyokeres this month with reports suggesting that an offer for him was rejected in recent days.

Nicolas Jackson seems to have the trust of his manager Mauricio Pochettino, but it does not look like that will stop the club from entering the market for a new No.9.

He has been impressive at time during his stint at Stamford Bridge, but he does not look like a forward that has the ability to push on and score 20-30 or even 40 goals a season for the Blues.

And that has led to constant speculation in the media over the past few months that we will once again delve into that transfer kitty and add another striker to that attack that has the ability to score goals and Gyokeres is reportedly on the list.

The 25-year-old striker joined the Portuguese side in the summer from Coventry for a club-record fee in the region of £20million, and it’s suggested that he now has an £87m release clause in his contract

Gyokeres would prove expensive if he were to leave Sporting mid-season, but a bid of £73million was made regardless. That falls below the £86million release clause.

The reports comes after the player admitted that he has no intention on leaving the club at this stage of the season:

“I’m very happy here and I don’t care about any interested parties at the moment. I’m enjoying every day here and not thinking about what’s going on around me. Yes, there’s talk of big clubs, but for now it’s just news. That’s all.”

Pressed directly on whether he was able to assure Sporting fans that he will not leave in January, Gyokeres added: “Yes. This is where I want to stay.”
