(Video) Giroud and Coutinho feature, Chelsea submit offer to sign striker, Blues close in on Martinez deal in Chelsea roundup….

Chelsea fans have been told that the Blues have made a big salary offer for Napoli forward Dries Mertens.

We  were able to delve into their transfer kitty this transfer window after getting their transfer ban overturned just a few months ago, but despite all the talk, and despite all the speculation surrounding possible new signings, Frank Lampard has been unable to complete the transfer deals that he would have liked and will now have to wait until the summer to get his transfer deals done.

And that has led to speculation in the media suggesting that a new striker will be a priority for the boss, as he needs to add a top-class forward to help Tammy Abraham out with the goals, with Mertens constantly linked with a free move to Stamford Bridge.

Now RaiSport journalist Paolo Paganini has come out and claimed that we have already made their move to try and sign the Seri A forward and have offered him a bigger salary than transfer rivals Inter Milan, who have also shown an interest in the ageing star.

“Mertens away? Inter and Chelsea have re-launched the Belgian offering him a higher salary,” Paganini told Radio Goal.”

Mertens, 32, has scored 121 goals and provided 73 assists in 311 appearances since joining Napoli from PSV Eindhoven in 2013 and despite his ageing years, he is still considered to be one of the most deadly strikers in Europe right now.

Chelsea have closed in on a deal for Lautaro Martinez after Qique Setein announced Barcelona may not be able to afford the striker.

Despite the Coronavirus putting a hold to the Premier League season and despite the fact that the transfer window is still months away, there has been alot of speculation in the media about possible arrivals to Stamford Bridge, with a striker on the agenda.

It is no secret that Frank Lampard is keen to improve this side with some big time signings, and reports in the media have suggested he will indeed get the £200 million it will take to sign some top-class, big-time names players in the summer, with a striker on the list

And it seems that Inter Milan striker Martinez is now on the shopping list of the boss as recent reports have claimed that we have tabled an offer to the Italians for their impressive striker.

The official opening date for the window is still unknown, but it is believed that clubs will be able to spend much less in the window whenever it opens, and that could have a serious impact on Barca’s transfer plans, with Setien doubtful that a deal to sign Martinez could be done.

“I am not pessimistic or optimistic with Lautaro.” he told Spanish radio: “I am not pessimistic or optimistic with Lautaro.

“I like [him] the way I like great soccer players, but I have no illusions with any of them.

“There will be an economic crisis due to Coronavirus – same for Neymar deal”.
