Olivier Giroud has hinted he could leave Chelsea this summer, despite signing a contract extension until next summer recently.
Giroud has been a big part of the set-up since the re-start of the football after the coronavirus outbreak and has been a big reason why we managed to get back inside those top four spots and reach the FA Cup final.
But with Tammy ABraham seen as the clubs future along with Timo Werner, game time at Stamford Bridge may be limited for the Frenchman next season, and Despite signing a new one-year deal in May, Giroud has cast doubt over his future in west London.
He told L’Equipe: “I still have one year to run on my Chelsea contract. If [I stay at] Chelsea, I’ll be happy. If this is not the case, another challenge will be presented to me.
“I can still play in a top league for another two years. I don’t set any limits for myself.
“I remember a discussion I had with Arsene Wenger.
“He told me that he saw me playing well until the age of 35 because, as I get older, my game would not be penalised since it is not based on speed.”
Look, Giroud has been brilliant for us this season, but he may not be next season and with Werner and Abraham possibly leading the attack, there will be limited action for the man.
If he leaves we will be sad, but we would understand his reasons if he did depart the club.
