Frank Lampard has reportedly urged Chelsea to make a move for Declan Rice.
England international Rice made over 100 Premier League appearances for the club, and is already regarded as one of the finest holding midfielders in the the English top-flight after making the move from defence to Midfield.
It was believed that Lampard would like to sign Rice and turn him back into a defender at the club, especially as the young man has the ability to play football from the back, but they have a fight on their hands.
However, according to The Athletic, Lampard now likes the idea of using Rice as a defensive midfielder at Stamford Bridge and has told the board to make a move and try to bring the young man to the club.
Since N’Golo Kante moved into a more central midfield position, we haven’t quite had the same solidity in defence that was seen in 2016/17 and Lampard wants to solve that with the possible signing of Rice.
However, Hammers owner David Gold appears to have no intention of selling the versatile Rice, who he believes is the true embodiment of the West Ham way, and has sent a clear message, he tweeted: “I would like to congratulate Declan on his 100th Premier League appearance for West Ham United – a magnificent achievement.
“I am very proud of him and he epitomises everything that this great football club stands for.”
We would like to see Rice arrive at the club, but we are hoping that another world class defender makes the move instead.
