Italian confirms Chelsea will sign defender once big decision made

CHELSEA will ramp up their attempts to buy a new defender this month if Trevoh Chalobah is sold.

We were one of the most active sides in the transfer window over the past few months and managed to bring in a whole load of players that the board feel will help drive the club forward over the next couple of seasons.

However – there were also a number of players that the club no longer wanted to keep hold of and Chalobah was on the chopping board at Stamford Bridge.

Italian Journalist Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that Nottingham Forest and the Blues shook hands on a £25m deal for Chalobah after Bayern Munich saw a move of their own for the No.14 break down, but he made the decision to stay and fight for his place in the Blues squad.

Tottenham were also linked with a late deadline day loan deal. The north Londoners are long-term admirers of the defender and could return for him in the January transfer window.

Now, Romano has opened up and claimed that we will look to sign a new defender this month should the club get the right offer for Chalobah – who is surplus-to-requirements at the club.

Fabrizio Romano says:

“I think CHELSEA are looking for a new defender in general. It could be this window or in the summer.”

“But Chelsea are looking into the centre-back market because they want to sign a player in that position, especially if Chalobah leaves. So, the idea is to go for that kind of player, a centre-back with a good personality.

“So, they already know what they want in that position, and they’re looking at the centre-back market. But it’s not guaranteed to be the winter window because many players are unavailable.”
