Olivier Giroud says fellow striker Timo Werner signing for Chelsea is going to provide him with “more motivation” and that he relishes the competition.

We have been very active in the transfer window already over the past few months as they have already nailed down a number of players to new contracts, and also signed a couple of world class players.

But it is the Werner that has been dominating the headlines over the past few days, with many people believing that the German superstar will help get us challenging for major trophies next season.

And it could also mean that Giroud will get less game time than he has been getting this season, especially as Werner will be partnering Tammy Abraham for much of the time at Stamford Bridge.

But Giroud has opened up and admitted that the move to sign Werner is going to provide him with “more motivation” and that he relishes the competition.

Giroud told The Guardian: “He [Werner] is going to be a very good signing and will provide more motivation for strikers.

“I’ve been the super sub but I want to make the gaffer’s choices even more difficult.”

He said: “I believe, like all the player,s he had at-risk people in his entourage, so that’s why he didn’t feel very comfortable. I respect that. We are very glad to have him back and I think he will definitely be here for the first game. He is looking good.”

Maybe the best thing is for Giroud to leave?
