Chelsea urged to make move and sign £81 million powerhouse this summer window

Chelsea should sign  Kalidou Koulibaly, according to former United midfielder Owen Hargreaves

Napoli defender Koulibaly has long been linked with a move to the Premier League and is set to leave the Serie A club in the next transfer window, as the Italian giants are ready to cash in on the big man.

Andreas Christensen has forged a strong partnership at the back with Antonio Rudiger, and they have been impressive at times this season, but there is still a feeling that we are ready to pay some big money in the transfer window to improve that back-line.

And that has led to reports in the media that a move for Koulibaly could be on the agenda for the board, although Napoli stuck a massive £105 million asking price on the mans head, which seemingly ended their interest.

However, with reports suggesting that Napoli will now accept a fee of around £81 million for Koulibaly, there are now reports emerging again that we are once again interested in signing the powerhouse.

And Hargreaves believes Koulibaly is exactly the type of player Frank Lampard needs to sign to address his defensive issues.

We conceded more goals in the Premier League this season than any other team in the top half of the table.

“I think you need a leader and I think Koulibaly’s that type,” Hargreaves said on BT Sport.

“He’s 28, 29, I think you need somebody in there to come in and command it.

“I think he’s got so many great young players but I think the spine of the team he’s got to address.”
