Chelsea told to splash cash and land striker, while £70 million star on way to replace Hazard?

Chelsea must sign a new striker to compete for silverware next season, claims Graeme Souness claims.

Maurizio Sarri has one of the best midfield’s in Europe right now and that is why he is still challenging for a Champions League spot and Europa League title, but they have not been scoring the kind of goals that many had hoped for, as they are lacking that world class forward.

Gonzalo Higuaín ha snot played well since his arrival to the Premier League, while Olivier Giroud is more of a back-up player that is able to make a big impact coming off the bench, meaning Maurizio Sarri is still in need of a top-class forward and Souness has told  the club that they need to splash the cash in order to land a new forward.

“I’ve said all year, I don’t think Chelsea are far away,” Souness said on Sky Sports.

“Imagine [Didier] Drogba today in that team, or even [Diego] Costa in that team today.

“It’s a very different Chelsea, you’d have that focal point, someone that will take the centre-backs on physically.

“Now the problem for Chelsea going forward, the owner would appear to be disinterested in it now, he’ll feel he’s been let down by our government, no longer would appear to want to invest the big bucks anymore and that’s the problem for Chelsea going forward.

“But, at the start of the season they had Morata who wasn’t good enough, Giroud is still there who doesn’t do enough for me and obviously the manager saw it that way.

“It just depends how much interest the owner has and how much investment the owner makes.”

Meanwhile, we are looking to beat Arsenal to the signing of Nicolas Pepe as a replacement for Eden Hazard.

Despite having the likes of Olivier Giroud and Gonzalo Higuaín on the books at Stamford Bridge, Maurizio Sarri is seeking a more long-term solution to his goal-scoring problems and has been linked with the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Mauro Icardi over the past few months.

But another name that has been mentioned about a possible move to London is that of Pepe, who has scored 19 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions this season and has been tipped to become one of the most deadly strikers in the game, with Arsenal boss Unai Emery a big fan.

But according to reports on the Daily Mirror, we are ready to swoop in and try to sign the long-term Gunners contract with a massive offer of £70 million.
