Harry Redknapp is surprised that the likes Chelsea did not make a summer move to try and sign John Stones from Manchester City.
It was no secret that Frank Lampard was looking to improve that back-line before the end of the summer transfer window, and was heavily linked with a £25 million move to try and sign Stones, but they opted to sign Thiago Silva on a free deal instead.
But the former Tottenham boss Redknapp believes Stones is a ‘real player’, and says he expected the trio to secure his signature: ‘Manchester United wanted to get Jadon Sancho in and that never happened,’ Redknapp told Sky Sports.
‘The new left-back [Alex Telles] sounds like he’s a good player. But I still thought they needed a new central defender. They needed that and that’s not happened.
‘I’m surprised someone didn’t take John Stones. I’m a big fan. I think he’s a real player.
“If someone got hold of him and got some confidence in him, he’s got all the tools. I like him, personally.
‘Someone like Arsenal, Chelsea. It’s a mixed bag for Manchester United. Ole needs players for now, not tomorrow.
‘It’s not a five-year plan. If you have a bad run of results, you’re out. He needed players for now. They needed a centre-half now.’
there is no doubt that Stones is quality on the ball and for the money that he is going for, it would be a very good but of business, But if we want him we can still get him as clubs can do transfer business up until the 16th.
But would fans welcome the man?
