Sarri looking to seal deal? Chelsea step up chase to land £45 million Romagnoli

We have reportedly rekindled their interest in AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli ahead of a potential bid in the January window.

Romagnoli has been on the transfer radar of Chelsea for a number of seasons now with reports even claiming that we make contact with Milan in a bid to finally sign the gifted central-defender, but the Italians were not prepared to sell their Captain and a player they hold in the highest regard.

So boss Maurizio Sarri cut his losses and just decided to complete deals for Kepa, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic and then work with what he had at the club, which has been a great decision so far having started the season unbeaten.

However, with speculation both Andreas Christensen is looking to leave the club in the January window, reports on the TalkSport website have claimed the Blues sent representatives to witness the Milan derby at the weekend, as we look to beat off Manchester United and land the world class star.

The Serie A star recently confirmed he had offers to leave Italy in the summer.

He was quoted: ‘Inter-Milan is also a direct clash for the Champions League, but the greater responsibilities give me more motivation than pressure. I am proud of it. I want to play here for many years and win.

‘The renewal? A logical choice. I am fine with my teammates, with Gattuso, with the fans. There were offers from the Premier League, but I feel at home here. I debuted against Milan in Serie A. Maybe it was my destiny. I like Milano, I only miss the sea of Neptune, maybe I will hang a picture of it in my room.

‘Milan will win again. It is a solid club which will fight for the Champions League and go on in the Europea League. What has changed?

‘Firstly, the ownership was exposed to so many risks. Now there is the desire to invest. Maldini and Leonardo transmit serenity and know the world of Milan.’

Could we really do a deal for Romagnoli in January?

History has shown us over the last few years that big players do not tend to make a move half-way through the season as they are firmly settled at their clubs and would prefer a summer switch, but with the board all set to hand Sarri enough funds to do some big deals, the right offer could complete this deal.

Money talks in football and no club will refuse an offer if their valuation is met, so yes we could actually get Romagnoli if the right amount is left on the table.
