Chelsea academy graduate Ian Maatsen has signed a new long-term contract at the club through to at least the summer of 2024.

Maatsen signed his first professional contract at the club in March 2019 and made his senior debut in September of that same year. Aged 17, the Dutch youth international played 24 minutes of the 7-1 Carabao Cup victory over Grimsby Town.

And with the club seeking to tie down a number of the younger players at the squad to big new contracts, they have managed to secure a deal for Maatsen on his 18th birthday, a deal that he is fully delighted with

He posted on Instagram: “Happy for myself and my family to be able to extend my contract for this beautiful club @chelseafc on my birthday.

“I want to thank everyone who supported me all these years to this day.

“The journey continues.”

We are busy trying to get back inside the top four spots between now and the end of the season, but there is still a lot of work going on behind the signs in order to build a great future for the club as a number of talents are being signed up.
