Maurizio Sarri wants to add a striker to his Chelsea squad this January, with Genoa star Krzysztof Piatek top of his shopping list according to reports that emerged.
Now we all know we have one of the best attacks in the Premier League and have been scoring goals for fun, but both Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud have not been helping Willian, Eden Hazard and even N’golo Kante out this season and have struggled to score goals on a regular basis.
And although I believe Giroud offers us something different up front and that he is a master of creating space for the more speedy players, he was signed by Antonio Conte to replace Morata and score the goals that will help us challenge for the Premier League title this season, something he has failed.
Morata on the other-hand should be banging in the goals for fun this season, especially since he has all the attributes to be one of the world s best strikers, but as we said earlier he has failed to impress and it is getting to that point that even Sarri has had enough,
And that has led to much speculation that Sarri is ready to give up on both Giroud and Morata and make a move for 23-year old Piatek, who is making a real name for himself over in Serie A and has attracted interest from Chelsea and Barcelona.
The 23-year old striker already has thirteen goals this season from just eight matches and is showing the kind of ability that makes him the ideal fit for a Premier League switch, and a forward that looks destined to lead the attack for the next few years.
And the Sun has reported Sarri has told the clubs hierarchy that he wants to delve into the transfer kitty this January to buy a striker that will add 20-plus goals to the attack, with Piatek just one of three new strikers that he has been eyeing up.
AC Milan star Gonzalo Higuaín and Inter Milan star Mauro Icardi are also on the shopping list, but the fact Piatek has scored so many goals at a small club like Genoa, makes him a prime target for the club.
But we will have a fight on our hands to complete a deal as Genoa general manager Giorgio Perinetti insists Piatek will not be joining Chelsea in the January transfer window.
He told Tuttosport: “In recent times at the Marassi [Genoa’s stadium, Stadio Luigi Ferraris] we have accredited many scouts and directors of German and Spanish clubs. All the big Serie A teams have also made enquiries but as President [Enrico] Preziosi said until the end of June at least, the Genoa fans will be able to enjoy him.
“We do not have a price for him, we still have to measure the growth margins of him. The price will reflect the various offers we receive, as well the competition [for his signature].”
Is Piatek a better signing than Higuaín or Icardi? Here is what we think.
Higuaín and Icardi have done it all and played at the very highest level for many seasons, but Icardi is 29-years old and Higuaín is in his thirties so they do not have much time left in the game and we feel that they have past their prime, and are just looking for big deals to finish off their illustrious careers.
Piatek on the other-hand is a young man that is scoring for fun and is hungry to become the worlds very best forward, and the fact he would cost half of what the other two forwards would makes him an absolute bargain.
If Sarri wants a striker, we would love to see Piatek sign up.
