Italian announces Chelsea are interested in £68m man ahead of Madrid exit
Italian Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Chelsea are interested in signing Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez
Saul won his first La Liga title with Atletico this season, but his involvement significantly decreased compared to past seasons. In the previous three campaigns, he made at least 30 league starts as Atletico finished second in both 2018 and 2019 and third in 2020.
However, in 2020/21, he made just 22 starts as Simeone led the club to its first Spanish title win in seven years, and His drop down the pecking order has reportedly resulted in him desiring a move away from the Wanda Metropolitano in the upcoming transfer window.
And According to recent reports in Spain, Saul is ‘determined’ to part ways with Atletico this summer, with the club now ready to try and make a transfer move.
Saul has a £129million (€150m) release clause in his Atletico contract, but with the deal expiring in 2026, the club would accept an offer worth around £69m (€80m), the reports claims
Now, amid the speculation, respected Journalist Romano has opened up and claimed that we are interested in a deal for Niguez, and the midfielder does want to leave the Spanish giants
He Tweeted: “They want to do something in midfield. It could be Declan Rice.
“Saul Niguez is another player they’ve been considering but there’s nothing advanced yet. He’s leaving Atletico Madrid this summer because they’re signing Rodrigo De Paul.”
Niguez is a very special player that would be a world class signing for the club if they were to step up their chase in the transfer window to try and get some sort of transfer deal done.
