Piatek to Chelsea! President Perinetti opens up on possible January deal for £40 million bargain

Genoa general manager Giorgio Perinetti insists the club’s star striker Krzysztof Piatek will not be joining Chelsea in the January transfer window.

The highly-rated 23-year old has fast become one of the most sought after strikers in Europe after taking Serie A by storm this season and has attracted the interest of Juventus, Barcelona and Chelsea.

After seeing Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata make a pretty poor start to the new season, boss Maurizio Sarri has reportedly told the Genoa striker that he is the clubs top transfer target this season and is ready to test the Italians resolve with a mega money offer.

Piatek has scored 13 goals in eight matches, having scored four in one game in the Coppa Italia, and is reportedly on the transfer market for just £40 million, although Genoa feel they can get more for the powerhouse.

But despite all the talk that we are interested and reports Genoa are willing to do a deal for the right price, Perinetti has announces Piatek will not be allowed to leave mid-way through the campaign.

He told Tuttosport: “In recent times at the Marassi [Genoa’s stadium, Stadio Luigi Ferraris] we have accredited many scouts and directors of German and Spanish clubs. All the big Serie A teams have also made enquiries but as President [Enrico] Preziosi said until the end of June at least, the Genoa fans will be able to enjoy him.

“We do not have a price for him, we still have to measure the growth margins of him. The price will reflect the various offers we receive, as well the competition [for his signature].”

Is Piatek worth the £40 million? Here is what we think.

If we really want to end the year in a top four spot and some silverware in the cabinet, then signing a man that already has thirteen goals to his name this season would be an ideal acquisition, but it will be very difficult to complete a deal, especially as big players very rarely move half way through the season.

But for £40 million, he would be an absolute bargain.
