Chelsea fans have been told that the Blues have made a big salary offer for Napoli forward Dries Mertens.

We  were able to delve into their transfer kitty this transfer window after getting their transfer ban overturned just a few months ago, but despite all the talk, and despite all the speculation surrounding possible new signings, Frank Lampard has been unable to complete the transfer deals that he would have liked and will now have to wait until the summer to get his transfer deals done.

And that has led to speculation in the media suggesting that a new striker will be a priority for the boss, as he needs to add a top-class forward to help Tammy Abraham out with the goals, with Mertens constantly linked with a free move to Stamford Bridge.

Now RaiSport journalist Paolo Paganini has come out and claimed that we have already made their move to try and sign the Seri A forward and have offered him a bigger salary than transfer rivals Inter Milan, who have also shown an interest in the ageing star.

“Mertens away? Inter and Chelsea have re-launched the Belgian offering him a higher salary,” Paganini told Radio Goal.”

Mertens, 32, has scored 121 goals and provided 73 assists in 311 appearances since joining Napoli from PSV Eindhoven in 2013 and despite his ageing years, he is still considered to be one of the most deadly strikers in Europe right now.
