Chelsea have reportedly made an opening bid for Kai Havertz, according to transfer expert Ian McGarry.

Now there has been alot of transfer speculation in the media that we are very keen to make sure that Havertz is signed and brought to the Premier League, especially as all indications suggest that Willian is leaving the club.

It is believed that Leverkusen want a massive £90 million this summer to even consider selling their star man, who has netted an impressive 37-goals over the last few seasons for the German side.

Now, after failing to win the FA Cup at the weekend, Frank Lampard is eager to get a new deal done and McGarry claims Lampard has offered £45m plus £9m in add-ons – a way short of Leverkusen’s £90m demands.

He said on the SUN: “Chelsea’s pursuit of German international Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen has progressed a little bit.

“It is our understanding that Chelsea met with Bayer Leverkusen officials this week.

“Petr Cech had visited Leverkusen to speak to officials there and the player about a possible move to Stamford Bridge.

“That has resulted in an opening bid of 50m euros plus 10m euros in add-ons.

“Leverkusen continue to value the player at 90m euros. That is something Chelsea feel is not a fair price for the 21-year-old.”

Look, we do need to sign up Havertz as he would be a brilliant signing, but the longer this drags out the less chance we will see other areas of the pitch improved.

Havertz is not the only deal that we want to complete, but we need to offer more than £54 million to get this deal done.
