Chelsea are aiming to pip Manchester United and Manchester City to the signing of Denis Zakaria in January, according to reports.
It is no secret that Frank Lampard wanted to add a holding midfielder to the side in the summer transfer window, but with the amount of money that he spent on signing players like Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz, he could not get to do that.
There was alot of speculation that Declan Rice is the man that he really wants to come in and possibly do that job but with West Ham asking silly money and the player reportedly set to get a contract offer, Lampard is now switching his attempts to Zakaria.
However, the January window is just a few months away and speculation has already started that we are just one of a number of clubs that have shown an interest in Zakaria, and have even made contact with the player about a possible deal.
Reports on the Daily Express website have suggested that the club are looking to beat off both Manchester giants in the January window and are prepared to meet his £40 million asking price, which is alot less than what Rice would cost the club.
Look, if we are going to sign a player in January, then adding another classy defender to the squad is much more important than a holding midfielder, they already have a couple that can do that job.
Zakaria is a very good player that has clear ability, but will he come in and help sort out the clubs main issues at the back?
