Meanwhile, Claude Makelele has returned to Chelsea as a technical mentor to the club’s young players, and is delighted to be back at the club.

The former France international has been named as a technical mentor for young players and those out on loan.

A statement on the club’s official website has confirmed Makelele will be based at Cobham training ground, “working closely with individual academy players, tracking technical performances in both training and matches as they reach a critical point in their professional development”.

And the Blues legend has admitted that he is delighted to have made the move back to Chelsea, admitting: “I am very happy to come back home.

“This club gave me a lot and now I want to give back and help the young Chelsea players dreaming of a career in football.

“I want to use all my experience to help them become professionals in every aspect and I am looking forward to getting started.”
