Tony Cascarino claims N’Golo Kante may look to leave Chelsea if he continues to be played out of position by manager Maurizio Sarri.
Kante is regarded as one of the best holding midfielders in world football, if not the best, but Sarri has made the strange decision to play the Frenchman in wider and a more attacking role to accommodate new summer singing Jorginho.
Jorginho has started the season in fine fashion for the club and has laid on a number of assists for the more attacking players, but he looked slow, off the pace and incapable of protecting the back-line for Sarri in the 3-1 spanking against Tottenham, and now that decision by Sarri is all over the headlines.
And now Cascarino believes the midfielder may look to leave Stamford Bridge if he continues to be overlooked for his favoured position, despite the fact he recently signed a massive £300,000-a-week deal.
He was quoted on the TalkSport website: “I don’t think Sarri’s comments about Kante being more technical were too much to be concerned about.
“I think the bigger issue with Kante is they have given him a new contract because they know so many clubs are sniffing around him, but he’s being played out of position.
“You feel he’s wasted.
“I think certainly PSG would be in for him as well as other clubs, and why wouldn’t they? He’s the best at his position in the world, without a doubt, for me.
“That’s why he signed a new deal, but I don’t believe it will be enough to keep him there if Kante plays in that position all season.
“I think by the end of the season he might have had enough, knowing he’s a far better player in the positions he is more accustomed to.”
Should Sarri drop Kante back in the middle?
Kante has been brilliant for us over the last few seasons and once again he has given 100 per cent for the boys this year, despite the fact he is not playing in his favoured position. But maybe it is time for Sarri to drop Mateo Kovacic and play both Jorginho and Kante together, as the Frenchman is need in front of our dodgy back-line.
Kante is the best holding midfielder in the game, so please put him back where he belongs.
