Chelsea interest in signing midfielder Rice has been confirmed, with transfer moves already being made
Trusted transfer journalist David Ornstein confirmed Chelsea’s interest in West Ham defensive midfielder Declan Rice.
Rice has been an outstanding player for the Hammers this season and is easily now one of the best holding midfielders in the Premier League, with boss Frank Lampard reportedly ready to pay big money to try and get a deal done.
Earlier reports in the media has suggested that we have made their initial offer to try and tempt Rice away from The Hammers, with Lampard is desperate to add quality in defence and the England ace is high on his wish-list.
Now, transfer journalist David Ornstein has opened up and revealed that we are in fact trying to get a deal done for Rice, but he could cost between the £65-70 million mark this summer.
He told the Tifo Football podcast: “We know Frank Lampard is a big fan of Declan Rice of West Ham and would like to convert him from a midfielder to a top centre-back.
“I know people in football who think he can become world class in that position.
“West Ham will demand an incredibly high fee, sources have suggested in the region of £65-70million and they are in a strong position contractually.
“I don’t think that everyone at Chelsea is convinced by Declan Rice but he’s one that Lampard wants.”
Look, we rate Rice very highly but if a deal is to get done, then we need to pay the right amount of money as the lad is not worth £70 million just yet.
