Chelsea will have to fend off Manchester United if we want to sign Napoli star Kaidou Koulibaly for £75 million in the coming transfer windows.
Despite out very impressive start to the new season, in which Maurizio Sarri has failed to register a loss, it is no secret that the Italian boss wants to add a new central defender to his back-line to sit alongside David Luiz and has had his eye on £75 million rated star Koulibaly.
The powerful Napoli star is now considered to be one of the top defenders in Serie A and was a key member of the impressive Sarri side that pushed Juventus so close in the Italian League, and his ability and solidarity would be a perfect fit for Luiz, who are times, looks like he is ready to make a huge mistake.
But now the Sunday Times has claimed United boss Jose Mourinho is working to convince the United board to back him in the January window and give him the funds to complete a £75 million deal for Koulibaly, and finally sort out an area he is not happy with.
Mourinho failed to get the backing of the board in the summer transfer window and barely got any real transfer business done, with only Brazilian signing Fred the only noticeable name brought in by the special one.
Would Koulibaly really chose United over a move to Chelsea? Here are our thoughts.
It I no secret that United have a great history and are one of the biggest clubs in world football, but they are no longer the force they used to be and winning things for Mourinho at the club will become more difficult as we, along with Manchester City and Liverpool all improve.
So even though they have the funds and backing to challenge us for the signature or Koulibaly, the big defender would surely decide to make the switch here at Stamford Bridge as we play the kind of football he enjoys, and he would get to work with a boss that helped him develop into a top-class defender.
However, there is a still a question as to whether he is worth £75 million and that could be the main reason why we do not complete a potential transfer deal.
