Chelsea have reportedly ‘made contact’ over a deal to sign Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa – as a possible replacement for Edouard Mendy.
The Senegal international has impressed in the Blues net since his arrival from Rennes in 2020 and has established himself as one of the best stoppers in world football.
However – his place in the first-team as come under threat this season – as he was sidelined with a knee injury when Graham Potter arrived at Stamford Bridge in September with Kepa Arrizabalaga coming back into the fold as a result, impressing with a string of much improved performances.
He is still considered to be the number one at the club – but with Kepa working his way back into the squad and all the speculation that Potter wants to bring in another stopper – it has been claimed that he is now looking into leaving the club
Now Spanish outlet Relevo claims we have made initial contact over a deal, but have been told he will not come cheap, having only recently signed a new deal with Porto.
His new contract contains a mega release clause worth an estimated £64million.
The report adds that super-agent Jorge Mendes recently approached Porto to declare his interest in brokering a blockbuster transfer this summer.
Although Mendy has not had the best of starts to the new season that he has in previous years – he is still one of the best stoppers in world football
But if he is considering leaving the club – then yes – we will need a replacement.
